Favourable results in donations at the Social and Development Aid of the Kolping Society, Inc. (Sozial- und Entwicklungshilfe des Kolpingwerkes e.V. – SEK)

The Social and Development Aid of the Kolping Society, Inc. was able to present a favourable financial statement for the year 2009. The donations have risen by 10.8 % compared to the previous year. One important reason for this yield were several donations received through wills.

Of the about 2.8 million Euros in donations, 51 % were given by individuals, 39 % by Kolping Families, Diocesan and National Kolping Societies, and further 10 % came from private foundations. Apart from the donations, the SEK received for its project work 7.4 million Euros as subsidies from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). 8.5 million Euros of the available funds were immediately allotted to specific projects. In 2009, a focus was put on projects to overcome underemployment and unemployment.

More and more often, the SEK e.V. is in demand in the area of disaster relief. In 2009, the SEK rendered help to Kolping members who suffered from the droughts in Uganda and Kenya and the floods in north-eastern Brazil, in India, and in Albania.
