Passion for social commitment

In September, General Secretary Dr. Markus Demele had an opportunity to visit Kolping Families and institutions run by Kolping in the Czech Republic. After a meeting with the Archbishop Emeritus of Prague, Cardinal Duka, he had the chance to visit the Prague women’s shelter, which will be celebrating its 30th anniversary next year.

National Secretary Libor Havlik and Michael Kubik had every reason to be proud of the wide range of social facilities they could show in Zdar nad Sazavou and elsewhere: a center for people suffering from addiction, a family center with childcare, a therapeutic outpatient clinic in Sejrek and the Vyhlidka Family Recreation Home – all of these facilities are examples of sustainable commitment to serving those in need in the Czech Republic.

“I am particularly impressed by the dedicated work of Kolping Families in an area where over 70 percent of people describe themselves as non-religious,” said Markus Demele after his visit. „Just one example: The Blansko Kolping Family has now around 240 active members who benefit from the wide range of activities offered by volunteers – especially for children and young adults.”

Finally, the Kolping School, which houses a secondary school and a catering training program, provided exciting insights into a state-of-the-art learning environment. Conclusion: sustainable facilities and dynamic Kolping Families – Kolping tradition at its best.
