Brazil: successful water project

Water shortage and poverty endanger the life of families in northeast Brazil. In Ceará Kolping Brazil supports its members with a new type of organic water system.

It enables the re-use of service water from the household for agricultural purposes. The pilot project started with three Kolping Families in Tigipió and Cantagalo. Thanks to donations and the support of the local authorities, the association was able to install cisterns to collect the water used for showering or washing up, for example. The families use the recycled water to irrigate their gardens. As a result, fruit trees and vegetable patches are now growing where previously the soil was barren. The families harvest fresh food for their own use and can even sell crop surpluses. In this way, the new water system brings hope and progress.
