World Nature Conservation Day 2023

20 Kolping campaigns worldwide

Not only on World Conservation Day, throughout the whole year Kolping shows commitment for nature and for the preservation of creation. Also this summer, actions took place worldwide, here is a selection:

India: Conference and campaigns

On the occasion of World Nature Conservation Day at the end of July, Kolping India organized a major conference in Chennai in collaboration with Tuticorin Multipurpose Social Service Society under the theme “Conservation of Nature for Sustainable and Healthy Human Life”. The conference was attended by more than 300 representatives of Kolping associations from Tuticorin, environmental activists, social workers, representatives of non-governmental organizations, academics, researchers and Kolping members from other districts. “The main purpose of the World Nature Conservation Day is to create community awareness among people about the importance of protecting the environment and natural resources in order to keep the world healthy.” said Fr. Maria Soosai, National Praeses of Kolping India. “It is the responsibility of individuals and society to preserve the environment for future generations.”

In addition, Kolping India called on its members to take action on World Nature Conservation Day in order to raise public awareness and promote greater sensitivity for the environment. In many Kolping Families, members planted seedlings, removed trash from public places, beaches and from water bodies. In Dharmpuri, specialists showed villagers how to make organic fertilizer from vegetable waste.

Mexico: Children protect the environment

At Kolping Mexico, even the youngest children get involved with the protection of the planet. In Querétaro, the local Kolping Family runs six-month courses to train children as environmentalists. They learn about environmental issues, recycling and energy conservation, and repeatedly clean up public places and streams. At the end of the course, the environmental angels receive a diploma.

Bolivia: Together against environmental pollution

At the end of August, Kolping Families in the Santa Cruz region of Bolivia took part in a joint campaign to clear their surroundings of trash. At the end of the event, the 30 participants attended an information session on waste separation and the recycling of raw materials.  With such joint activities, among other things, Kolping Bolivia is raising its members’ awareness for the protection of our environment thus making a valuable contribution to the preservation of the Creation.
